Common Questions

Here are the answers to our most commonly asked questions.

(1) When should I receive my order?

Typically, within two weeks of your order… Weather permitting.

An email confirmation is sent to each customer as soon as a shipping label is generated. Tracking numbers are then made available when your order ships. To satisfy most orders, our expert growers’ fulfillment process involves selecting from our largest and most vigorous plants within 1-3 weekdays. The best Anthuriums are then carefully prepared and whenever possible are scheduled for second-day shipping. These living plants are perishable, so sometimes we’ll delay sending our special tropical hybrids through areas seasonally impacted by unfavorable weather… such as freezing temperatures. Heat packs are used when and where indicated… at no additional cost.

Your patience as a valued Anthuriums by DocBlock customer is sometimes required and is sincerely appreciated!

(2) What size are your Anthuriums?

Anthuriums By DocBlock standards: Anthuriums are expertly grown into pots from 3.25″ to 5” (8 cm to 12 cm pots). They’re listed as available for purchase only when: a) vigorous, healthy root growth has advanced to the sides and/or base of their pot, and they have b) three or more leaves typical of the desired hybrid that measure >3” – 6” (>7 cm-14 cm) not including the petiole stem.

(3) May I select a specific plant?

Single plant selections attempting to meet a customer’s specific request(s) are not offered.

There are reliable images of the parent plants pictured on https://anthuriumsbydocblock/ with images of hybrid seedlings; along with detailed descriptions that optimally inform our buyers. The fulfillment process is based on our expert growers’ selecting only the largest, healthiest plants available at the time they’re ordered.

If a particular parent plant appearance (phenotype) is essential, we suggest that you wait until higher “F” numbers are available that refine the Mendelian genetics. Subsequent self-cross generations are more likely to reliably reflect a specific trait in their offspring seedlings.

(4) Do you offer wholesale prices?

Wholesale pricing is offered based on the quantity of plants available. Look for the top left “AVAILABLE” banner to note Retail AND Wholesale.

Discounts of hybrids can range from 10%… to as much as 50% off depending on the number of a plant hybrid ordered.

(5) Can I make changes to my order?

Generally, no… but we try to help correct ordering errors if promptly email notified at office@anthuriumsbydocblock.com during the first hour after an order is placed. Be sure to double-check your order’s information… and review “COMMON QUESTIONS” information… before ordering!

Our factory’s fulfillment begins on the same day your plant is ordered… The greenhouse’s Anthuriums are carefully selected and relocated to shipping areas for boxing preparation.

(6) Are plants exported from the USA?

No. Preparation of Anthuriums for agricultural exporting compliance with USA government rules is detrimental to any plant’s health. That is why Dr. Block’s genuine hybrids are now grown domestically AND in Europe… AND in Asia. Therefore, we no longer (need to) export!

(7) Do you sell seeds?

We do not sell our seeds because they represent the potential of our next generation plants!

As seedlings develop, DocBlock makes his selections based on his Master Gardener breeder’s vision of traits he deems most desirable in a next generation of seedlings. This not only includes what a plant leaf may look like, but also how easy the plant is to grow! Therefore, successive generations of decidedly (un)natural selections continue to help distinguish his plants’ strengths and helps his hybridization process most efficiently evolve.

(8) May I use the hybrids purchased to make more plants?

Yes! Dr. Block encourages his followers to advance their own breeding skills! He has set his standard, and now sincerely enjoys sharing growing tips with international audiences and comments favorably when anyone successfully creates a beautiful new hybrid!

Because DocBlock typically retains two full generations of genetics ahead of his plants released, he does not regard this as a commercial challenge or threat to his interests. Nevertheless, International Breeder’s Rights and trademarked name protections are enforced when and where needed.

(9) What if my shipment arrives damaged?

We take great care to ensure and document that all items sent from our facility are healthy and securely packaged. Nevertheless, we recognize that rarely items might get damaged. We’re not responsible for shipping delays beyond our control or damages incurred during shipment. Of course, you may choose to wait until a more favorable season to reship to your location. If we’re out of stock of your item, we may be able to offer you a substitute.

If you receive a significantly damaged plant, you should immediately initiate a claim with us; and you should retain the package for a minimum of 14 days as the parcel company may need to inspect the damaged parcel. Claims made more than 48 hours after receipt of a living plant will not be honored; and the customer is deemed to have approved the plant order’s successful fulfillment.

Plant damage claims MUST be reported to us immediately; within 24 hours of the recorded delivery. This is a policy requirement, and failure to do so is grounds for denial.

Photos MUST be submitted showing both the box, and the full plant depicting significant damage… cosmetic damage such as a broken or a torn leaf is NOT a covered loss.
