Anthurium ‘Red Velvet Cake®’ X ‘Dark & Handsome®’ are two classic DocBlock bred parent Anthuriums that combine to feature red to purple colored hybrids with narrow veins displayed on moderately elongated leaves. The reverse cross ‘Dark & Handsome®’ X ‘RedVelvet Cake®’ hybrid is available to discerning collectors… and can often look different than their “first” cousins.

Several decades ago, the original Anthurium ‘Dark & Handsome®’ plant genetics were collegially shared with Dr. Block from a Monroe Birdsey cutting. DocBlock then selected for this cultivar’s chocolate-color new leaf expression against its chartreuse-colored veins. The maturing leaves develop medium-green hues.
