In medium-filtered light, Anthurium ‘Michelle®’ hybrid by DocBlock boasts an extraordinarily dark new emerging leaf with purple veins that evolve into burgundy-black hues with contrasting white veins.
Distinctive, healthy F5 hybrids have been developed for color and vigour from the mid-late 1980s, cutting accession of a distinctively dark Anthurium magnificum attributable to Miami’s Tim Anderson of Daisy Farms, Inc.
A young Dr. Block selectively bred for round emerging leaves and petioles expressing increasingly deep violet to burgundy shades.
The point at which the petiole’s veins emerge forms an “X” shape along the leaf’s central axis and retains color as the leaf matures. The front of the leaf evolves from emergent purple with lighter contrasting vein colors; growing through black hues; and maturing into dark green hues with white contrasting veins.
The reverse-side of the leaf is a negative image that evolves from emergent purple; lightening through lavender hues; and maturing into light green hues with darker contrasting vein colors consistent with the petiole.
