Surprisingly, only a few examples of true Anthurium magnificum (hortus) are known to exist in cultivated collections, including those used for research. Dr. Block realizes that the dark form he selected for breeding may be a hybrid of this classic species. Block also suspects that what evolved to be recognized as ‘Michelle’ may once have been a naturalized hybrid of Anthurium magnificum. This core breeding Anthurium has been selected for its dominant genetic expression of red color seen in its new emergent leaves.
